Background
When BetterTAX.org began trading, we became aware and quite shocked at the number of construction industry tradesmen who had been out of work due to accident or injury and were finding it difficult to support themselves and their families.
Partnership
After discussing the idea with many of our existing clients; BetterTAX.org is now proud to announce that from March 2010 we will be using the
BetterTAX Charity Systemto partner with and donate to The Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund. Please read on as they are a fine charity that is wholly geared to providing excellent help to those from the construction industry or their families.
The Charity
The Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund is run by people in the construction industry, all of them volunteers and operating from 21 locations around the UK.
Since its formation in 1962 The Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund has given out a massive £10 Million in aid and has helped thousands of construction workers and their families.
The charity exists to assist those in the industry (and their families) who, through accident, illness and sometimes even bereavement find themselves in need of some financial help. What’s noteworthy is that the people and families who are helped in this way do not have to (and nor is there any expectation on them to) pay the money back or even any need to be members of The Lighthouse Club in the first place. A genuine help for those in genuine need!

How Can You Help?
We felt that asking each client to make a reasonable but small tax free contribution from their refund was a good starting point, the sum being £29.12.
Clearly no donation is applicable if, in the highly unlikely event, we have not secured you a refund. Likewise, it was decided that a contribution from BetterTAX.org would also be appropriate and of course, being tax refund agents, the maths became easy! So as you (our clients) are nearly always Tradesmen in the construction industry, we have introduced a system that, when a healthy refund is due to you - the sum of £29.12 is donated to the Fund.
29 = 52? Do Tell!!!
For every single one of these generous £29.12 donation by you and each of our clients, BetterTAX.org will donate a further £12.48. But because it is donated directly from your refund at HMRC, via their
Just Givingtax charity facility, the deducted tax is then replaced and ultimately, the total amount donated, because of your £29.12 donation to the fund, is actually a whopping £52.
